So little time, so much to do

Ok, so its 8 weeks to go – am I nervous? Yes.  Am I excited? Yes…

Since  I became project manager in March its been a fascinating brilliant roller coaster ride.  I have met departments that I never knew existed to my shame (hello Digital!), visited Heelis to the point that I don’t get lost on my way there from the train station any more ( I am a complete loser with directions) , – although making a cup of tea in the hidden cupboard world is still quite challenging , I will get there I’m sure.

So where are we up to so far?  I have ordered a double geodome for the event – they look beautiful – a smaller version of the Eden project buildings.  They are made from a tough canvas material that is semi light permeable and will give us 1000sq ft of space to play in.

Last week we appointed our designers for the interior of the Domes – we wanted something different that reflected the passions of the NT, that could be interpreted in many ways and we wanted to choose someone who we could trust to deliver – on programme and in budget.  The designers are from Bristol and tomorrow we  – the ‘experience’ team,  are meeting up in Bristol to hopefully finalize the details of their contract with us so that they can get on and create it!

Another part of the project is to illuminate the Tor – so this is why last Friday  I spent a very very windy but happy couple of hours on the tor chatting LED’s and generators and security.  We could see the festival site from the tor – and the realisation of the massive site and the enormity of the project hit home.. then I realised my hair looked a right state and vowed that if I ever went up the tor again I would take a hat.

So amongst the minutiae there have been some big decisions made and lots more still to be made.

This week  my main tasks are to get the red email out to begin the process for volunteer recruitment and to write the business proposal for central funding.  All new skills for me but with support from other NT employees doable I’m sure.

I am really looking forward to building the team of people who will be on site for the week of the Festival .
